My Latest Mighty Deeds Of Grace and Compassion

Coooeeeee.

Can you believe its already the 9th* of January?!?!?!?!?

Where’s the year gone?

Makes you think doesn’t it?

Yes. It does.

One of my new year resolutions was to continue being Christ like in my benevolence and sure enough, true to form, I’ve already gone and whacked a couple of benefit gigs in the diary like the relentless chuffing champion that I am.

Good. On. Me.

The first one is in aid of the Trussell Trust (food bank bods) and The independent Food Aid Network. It was organised as a response to the election result, not by but for those charities and it’s at the Union Chapel on Saturday the 18th of January. I’m compering it and there’s a variety of bangers on the bill. I wanted to call it SCOFF! but they went another way and called it Make Some Noise with quite a long subtitle that I can’t remember but you can get tickets and more information about who’s on, - here:

 https://www.unionchapel.org.uk/event/18-01-2020-make-some-noise/

The second one is two days later on the 20th of January, its at the Backyard Comedy Club in east London and is in aid of Australian Bushfire Relief. I thought they should have called it SCOFF! but they’ve gone another way and called it Love From London, which is pretty nice actually. Again, it’s a very very good bill of which I am but a small part. No come on, its not about me. No come on guys. Come on. You can find out all the details about timings and whos on and so on and get sweet tick tocks** here:

https://ticketpass.org/event/EJXETI-love-from-london-australian-bushfire-relief

That’s the extent of my good works but I am also doing a few work in progress shows at the Bill Murray in Islington throughout January. Do keep in mind that “work in progress” is, as ever, hugely overstating what this is likely to be. They are certainlt not working towards something specific and whilst I might like to tell myself they are a useful, exploratory first step towards some new stand up – I’m likely to get distracted by someones nice jumper or singing a song and not talk about any of the things I thought might be interesting or worthwhile. So, with that in mind, don’t get excited by the cheap tickets and bring people along to show them your favourite underground cool guy comedian without fully briefing them on the nature of the endeavour otherwise they’ll doubt your taste and question your friendship.

And neither of us want that.

There’s no specific webpage for the dates and they’re scattered a bit through January at various times, but if you go to following link and have a nose about at their calendar page, you’ll probably find them, they should be up there in the next day or so.

https://www.angelcomedy.co.uk/

That’ll do I reckon.

I’ll probably email you again relatively soon with more news about other things***.

But in the meantime…………

GOODBYE FOREVER.

Daniel

* - Dates vary according to location and time of reading.

** - Industry lingo for tickets, you can impress people with this, they’ll think you work in show business.

*** - There are currently no other things and I’m mainly doing pottery and playing football but the money will run out at some point, relatively soon – so stay tuned!

Disgraceful Stuff, All things Considered.

So,

Historically*, i’ve updated this news page by cutting and pasting the emails i send to my mailing list after i’ve hit send and when i remember to do so.

As you can see, i’ve not done that for half a year - during which time i’ve sent emails about runs of KEEP in Liverpool, Newcastle, Washington DC and New York and simply forgotten to pop them across here.

I’ll endeavour** to do better in 2020 and thereafter.

GOODBYE FOREVER

Daniel

* If thats not too strong a word.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Obviously, Yes, Of Course I am.

look, listen, look.

With almost complete inevitability, I am actually going to do be doing some shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. I’m sorry about the late announcement of this. I’ve had stuff on and also, I’m slotting into a couple of relatively last-minute gaps at The Stand (5pm) and Paines Plough Roundabout at Summerhall (10.35pm) and its all come together late in the day.  It’s not a deliberate, tactical bid to appear like a naughty rebel doing his own thing outside the auspices of the Fringe and playing by his own dangerous rules.

That appearance is just a happy by-product of actually being a naughty rebel doing his own thing outside the auspices of the Fringe and playing by his own dangerous rules.

The one at the stand is likely, but not definitely, going to be more stand up based and the one at Roundabout is likely, But. Not. Definitely. Going to be more theatrical in nature. There may be some stuff from the recent Regents Park show in Either, Neither or Both of these shows and I imagine I’ll be muddying the boundaries of genre with text book audacity, knowing me.

If you are furious that you’ve either already filled a spreadsheet with shows and have no room for this or that you’ve already booked your accommodation and aren’t up there on a date that I’m performing – then firstly, obviously, please accept my heartfelt apologies for not being more on top of things. And, secondly, SETTLE DOWN DANORACKS – neither of these shows will be worth feeling sad about missing. Your time will likely be better spent wherever you already plan to be at that time. I’ve deliberately not called them work in progress shows because they will almost certainly not lead to anything and therefore do not warrant the implications of honourable toil and eventual completion bestowed by that description.

I can’t make it any clearer than that.

Here are the details.

Firstly, the show at the Roundabout is called Shenanigan. It’s on at 10.35 pm. From the 4th to the 18th of August (not Tuesdays or Fridays) and will be between 60 and 90 minutes long.

Here’s the blurb.

Shenanigan.

On most Tuesdays, I go to a café before football for lunch with my friends Tim and Isy. Last week, the café had a really appealing special on the board which involved roasted cauliflower, pickled cabbage and babaganoush. The lady behind the counter referred to it as “The Shenanigan”.

Which I very much enjoyed.

This show will have absolutely nothing to do with that meal, that lady, that café, those friends, playing football or Tuesdays but I have to call it something otherwise they can’t put it in the system.

Something new, vaguely experimental, unfinished and frankly, quite unlikely to ever be finished, by Daniel Kitson.

Tickets are 8 pounds and go on sale today, July 17th, at 3pm at this link.

The link will not work before 3pm.

The show at the Stand, is called Everything Smells of Orange, It’s on at 5pm. From the 5th to the 25th of August. (Not Tuesdays) and will be 60 minutes long.

Here is the blurb for that one. Such as it is.

Everything Smells of Orange.

Daniel Kitson, having not made anything unequivocally good for years and years and years, now displays a charmless lack of respect for a tolerant if dwindling audience, a supportive venue and, actually, the greatest arts festival in the world, by filling a slot at the last minute, doing very little work, making no discernible progress and charging everyone five pounds to watch.

All tickets are 5 pounds.

The stand will hold 15-20 tickets back for sale on the door on the day of the show, please contact them for details on how that’ll happen.

The rest of the tickets will go on sale today, July 17th, at noon at the following link.

www.thestand.co.uk/shows/871-daniel-kitson-everything-smells-of-orange/

The link will not work before noon.

And that’s that for now

All the best.

Stay cool.

And.

GOODBYE FOREVER.

Daniel

The Summer Time.

Hello to one and all.

I hope to Christ you’re really well.

This is a quick email to give you a heads up on a flurry of work in progress dates over the next two months and some advance information for Regents Park Open Air theatre tickets.

So me, myself and Gavin Osborn are doing Regents Park Open Air Theatre on Sunday the 7th of July. The show is going to start at 9pm (in order to maximise the magical night time twinkly vibes) and run at 90 minutes or so, straight through (in order to get out of there by the 11pm curfew). Here is the Blurb.

Daniel Kitson and Gavin Osborn – Outside. Again.

There was a time when we came here every year, to sing songs amongst the trees, and tell tales beneath the stars to fill the sky with a bonfire built from laughter and love and joy and wonder.

But that was years ago now.

Back when life was a gathering glory of boundless potential. Back when simplistic sadness felt profound and broken hearts were plot points and death was just a narrative device. Back when a night’s sleep could stretch out beyond noon and eating crispy shredded beef after midnight had minimal digestive repercussions the following day. Back before births and deaths and distance and doubt. Before beliefs buckled and hope came to feel facile and pyjamas started to almost always smell at least a little bit of piss.

And yet.

Here we are again.

In the middle of the night in the middle of the summer.

Under the sky.

In a park.

Rummaging in the rubble for something to burn, a forgotten fragment of anything flammable, searching for something to set alight and hold aloft and to fling it, together, once again, out and up into the deepening dark.

Show will include: Sad songs, funny stories, indefensible declarations, crosstalk, technical difficulties, sad stories, moths, funny songs, quite possibly a chant and at least two, standard lamps.

Not bad.

Tickets are twelve pounds (plus 1.80 booking fee) so they’re actually 13.80. If you want to be reasonable about it.

General sales open on the 18th of June but tickets will actually go on sale at 11am on the 11th of June to members of the Open Air Theatre and also YOU. I’ve wangled a promo code for you plonkers to get early access. Please don’t whack this code out on social media or anything like that. Just use it. And then burn it.

Here’s what to do on the 11th June at 11am.

(1) Click on this link - https://openairtheatre.com/whats-on?by=moreoutdoor

(2) Follow the listing  for me and Gav (which may not be there yet but will be there by then, okay?)

(3) Enter this code DKOAT19 and you’ll be able to buy tickets.

So that’s that. In other news. I’ve whacked a variety of work in progress shows in over the coming weeks. Initially these will be working towards regents park and thereafter maybe something in Edinburgh.

Just quickly, the vagueness of my Edinburgh plans is not a marketing scheme or a sneaky ploy or indicative of callous disregard for your spreadsheets, its just not sorted yet and if (or more likely, when) I sort it – I’ll boink you an email.

In the meantime – here are the listings of preview shows. There’s some in Bristol, lots in London and a couple in Hebden Bridge. You can click on the relevant link below for information about dates and prices and times. Do bear in mind that times vary. Some of the Bill Murray ones are in the afternoon so do double check.

Oh also, the ones at the Bill Murray are called Waggle – because I found it briefly funny to call them that

And they should all be onsale now except Hebden Bridge which will be up and running either later today or tomorrow.

So here are the links.

London – Bill Murray  - https://www.angelcomedy.co.uk/daniel-kitson-returns/

Bristol  - Wardrobe Theatre.  -  http://thewardrobetheatre.com/livetheatre/daniel-kitson/

Hebden Bridge – Trades Club

These dates are the 29th and 30th of July and the tickets should be onsale through this link within the next 24 hours  - www.thetradesclub.com

And that’s that.

Good.

Time for some water and a bit or air.

Yum yum yum.

GOODBYE FOREVER

Daniel Kitson.
